Discuss the second TERMINATOR film here.
Keep reviews constructive and respectful. Posts like "It sucks" and "Its crap" will be removed since it doesn't add to discussion nor gives any reason behind any sort of dislike for the movie. Back up opinions with reasoning.

I watched it the other day. At the end John throws both the chip and the arm from the first Terminator (which killed Kyle) into the pit. I wonder if that was the exact arm that struck his father? I cant remember if it was the right or left. But anyway I'm glad it was John that got to do that, its kinda poetic justice.

I caught it on SpikeTV the other night, but since I've seen it my share and own it on two formats, I decided to skip watching it. I know the movie pretty much inside and out since I first saw it about 7 or 8 years old.

I honestly think Terminator 2 is the greatest movie, EVER. I really do.
This movie has had me hooked on the Terminator franchise for a decade plus.

I never get tired of this particular chapter. It's fun, forward and gets the job done effectively.

Yep T2 is probably the best movie ever made. I don't watch it enough, only when I'm hyped up for it.

My Review of T2.
T2 is an interesting film. The first time I saw it I thought it was a pretty excellent film, but I have never been one of those people who could conceive of calling it the best film ever. Why? Because even on first viewing there were too many issues I had with it, too many issues that I couldn't ignore.
I think the problem is that as a screenwriter problems stick in my mind far easier than most viewers. Also in that same vein I really didn't care with the direction the film took. It neutered the Terminator. It gave me a John that I just didn't care about. And it appeared to be from the bigger and badass is better catergory of films that just pisses me off.
The script is especially frustrating because I found The Terminator(s) script to have the perfect ammount of information in it. And then the T2 script has so much information you practically can drown in it. And once again for me most of that information was just overkill, and good chunks were contradictory.
At first I gave it a pass after all it was James Cameron, I must be delusional. The script can't be as bad as I believe it to be.
But after getting the script book, which Istill love...and meeting him on a number of occasions to discuss the future and past of the franchise. Well I came to find that I was not on my own in my dilike for elements and sequences within the script. And the film itself.
There are a number of issues that are detrimental to the film that could have been done away with by using a different camera angle. The Most egregious two coming within 5 minutes of each other. The trucks jump into the canal...and it's crash at the end of the chase.
The first one in hugely obvious and completely makes the chase superfluous, since the trucks axel snaps in two not only obviously but in slow motion. And when the tow truck rams into the bridge support to end the chase that should not be able to happen, we see a shot of a really horrible T-1000 dummy getting knocked around.
Also there are scenes that were gotten factually wrong on purpose to bump up the action content. Terminator using the M-79 to open doors from far too close for the Grenades to Arm. Turning SWAT into a joke of a unit that moves in guns blazing an firing a million rounds without so much as a warning. Even worse is that the real SWAT officers agreed to turning a real unit into a bunch of trigger happy killers.
The horrible cuts to the obvious Arnold dummy when he went on his kneecap ankle shooting spree.
And each time I watch it I notice more problems and issues both big and small.
It is ironic then that I still like the film a good deal.
I'd still give it a 8.5 out of 10.
And I'd still say that the Trilogy is still my fave sf/action trilogy.
But I'd also say that for me T2 is my weak link of the lot.
Best movie ever....not even close.

Rossbond: It has that information so the viewer knows what they are up against. Obviously not everyone watched the original Terminator. I wasn't even old enough.
Most of your critiques are way too minor, like special FX errors with dummies? Cmon it was years ago and before the real digital age (thank god). The reservoir chase sequence was the most amazing film sequence ever. T1000 is just on their ass! Arnie saves them. I love it when T-1000 pops up again, and pushes out the windshield. I like any flaws, because I know the film makers did their best.
It doesnt matter that the T-800 model is re-programmed to be non-dangerous, because the T-1000 is infinitely deadly, can't be killed easily, and could be anyone/anywhere.
T2 Had more hope in it than T1. We saw that machines could be both good and evil for us.
I can see why you might like Terminator 1 better, but honestly I think T2 just kills it in terms of excitement factor, special FX, and narrative.

And it appeared to be from the bigger and badass is better catergory of films that just pisses me off. Upon reading your review here, I wonder if anyone else notices that you simply took the criticisms most people had for T3 and just applied it to T2 ;D I think the problem is that as a screenwriter problems stick in my mind far easier than most viewers. The script can't be as bad as I believe it to be. There are millions of expert writers out there with great films under their belt, and they will seldom insult this movie like this. There are a number of issues that are detrimental to the film that could have been done away with by using a different camera angle. The Most egregious... The first one in hugely obvious and completely makes the chase superfluous, since the trucks axel snaps in two not only obviously but in slow motion. Everyone and their mother would identify this as a nitpick. I advise you to use your zoom function so you wont see that superfluous stunt error. I cant use the zoom to cover up T3s impossible sequence of destroying every single - telephone pole - building - lawns - stack of oil cans - bums cans - childrens bin of balls - car - Fire pickup truck - Police bike - garbage can - ambulance - Animal hospital truck - firetruck - acetalyne tank truck - humongous crane - Sewer lid - stretch of asphalt - (and a partridge in a pear tree) ...in one neighborhood. Theres no button for that. Turning SWAT into a joke of a unit that moves in guns blazing an firing a million rounds without so much as a warning. Even worse is that the real SWAT officers agreed to turning a real unit into a bunch of trigger happy killers. Once again I dont know if this has to do with politics or whatever, but Los Angeles Police (SWAT or whatever) sniping down an African American man holding a detonator? If youve been anywhere near a tv set for what happens in LA, youd understand this isnt that far fetched. But maybe its politics, but just know: billions of people saw nothing problematic with that and its a valid opinion. The horrible cuts to the obvious Arnold dummy when he went on his kneecap ankle shooting spree. Im a VERY good judge on if dummys look believable. I know T1s mirror dummy was quite primitive, and I was blown away by T3's wax figure of battle damaged arnold, so when you say T2's was utter CRAP when it was probably a 6 or 7 out of 10 especially compared to t1, your motives get REALLY obvious. Were sorry we dissed T3, but please, dont take it out on T2.

Was rewatching this for about the millionth time the other night and noticed the SWAT team leader is the nasty dude from Automatic who puts Sarah into the decon shower.
I wonder if he's the only cast member to straddle the TV and movie versions...?

Been wracking my brains trying to think of any more but really can't...The show was never one for stunt, wink-wink casting which is a very good thing.

Sorry about the double-post... But, this has been bugging me! Watching T2, does anyone else think that the young dude in Cyberdyne with Miles - the young lad tasked with the blatant Pepsi!Product!Placement role, who has lollypop. He's with Miles when he gets the arm out of the secure lock up - is TSCC's Andy Goode? He just always reminds me of him whenever I watch the movie. Plus, Andy was an intern at Cyberdyne which seems to be the role this kid was playing. Just wonder whether TSCC based Andy on him... Random I know
