Discuss the third TERMINATOR here.
Keep reviews constructive and respectful. Posts like "It sucks" and "Its crap" will be removed since it doesn't add to discussion nor gives any reason behind any sort of dislike for the movie. Back up opinions with reasoning.

This one is interesting for me. Movie wise it wasn't up to the quality of T2 or T1, but it was still an exciting film for me. Some of the one liners were a little corny for my taste, I guess they were feeding off humanizing 'Uncle Bob' from T2.
The effects were impressive, and I found the T-X to be intimidating. The film had a slightly different vibe as a lot more of it seemed to take place in the daytime.
The ending is what makes it hard to rank for me. The final 20 or so minutes really make this film shine in my opinion. The way they dealt with Connor's destiny and finally taking up his position to lead the war against Skynet was VERY well done in my opinion. The idea of Katherine Brewster as his 2nd in Command was also a very cool addition.
I might be biased due to my love of all things Terminator, but I loved it.

I just happen to be watching this right now.
And I have to say as a big fan of all 3 films T3 stands up so much better to repeated viewings than T2. (JMHO).
Also I really love the script especially after T2's I will force feed you EVERYTHING script.
Having a new take from new writers certainly helped breath new life into the series. And on top of that goes to show that just because you want to stop a Time travel story of this kind does not mean it's possible.
And Skynet is a totally totally dangerous proposition now, far more dangerous and destructive and of course more difficult to kill, thanks to its updated design.
And oh yeah....it's BLEAK as hell at the ending.
And it ripped off my very own T3 script for a few of it's best scenes so...how can I NOT love it.

Where do I start on the goods?
An adult John. A love interest, Kate, that carries some of his mother's traits. Arnie back at it again. Kristanna Loken. J-Day finally happens.
Problems: -Terminators coming back and saving and helping John and attempting to kill John. It's a fun concept that worked twice, but it felt beyond repeitive at this point.
-The T-X. A flashier upgrade. Love Kristanna all the same, but felt like this model was forced into play.
-Sarah Connor not being in play, but all the same it does work to the story.
Overall, its still a chapter I like besides the issues in play.

For me the third Terminator film doesn't exist yet. I simply ignore it. It was a huge disappointment. All the things that made the T1 and T2 great were sadly missing. 1) atmosphere: all that summertime outside and music and general feel just felt too happy for a terminator film 2) Dumb mistakes: the terminators didn't feel like the unstoppable emotionless machines anymore. Like Arnie getting the keys for the truck... how could this model know that trick. It's not the same model as in T2. And why the sunglasses... His eyes weren't damaged... just a lot of behaviour I don't want to see when dealing with efficient terminators! 3) T-X didn't work for me... Emotions, and when she dies it seems she screams or something... Looked more like an alien. Just didn't feel the menace I felt when I watched Arnold or the t-1000 4) The music.... Not as threatening Big fail... I was so happy when I found out the sarah connor chronicles was going to ignore T3!! Let's hope T4 will be the real part 3. Though one good point: the ending was cool. Nice and dark, the way I like it... ;D

Aside from what's already been said (great ending, tacky TX)I cringe at how John's IQ and resourcefulness dropped, and/or transferred to Kate.
A lot of shallow nods to the previous films that felt like the director was parodying the film.
Though I really dug the T-1. I liked how the first terminators were more in line with the HK's instead of jumping to bi-pedal as I always assumed that the first Terminator was. And ofcourse they looked great, especially when you had the chance to see it in person ;]
While the TX I liked only as what it stood for, which was as a more feminine, deadlier, and advanced model. It really felt out of this world, portraying how cold and menacing Skynet truly is. Which worked against it in the movie she didn't really come off as threatening since she was constantly outwitted. I would much rather see it as a Skynet's personal, uh..primary guard. Or even as the Skynet itself, strung up by a giant mass of wires and tech in a large chamber.
And I appreciated the slight peak into a Terminator's motivation to The Mission.
Though overall, I am comfortable with forgetting about this movie

When it really comes down to it I see this film as the proof that the Terminator films are a franchise in their own right and it lead the way for the very TV series that we watch now and the upcoming T4.
I do personally have some minor quabbles about this one (mentioned above), but considering the drafts that were circulating prior I've seen and read a lot worse.
While it's not the greatest chapter, that goes to T2 in my eyes, I can't call it a horrible film by any means since the studio had a lot of pull in how they wanted things to play out in regards to the whole development process.
If anything I would have loved to have seen what Cameron would have made, but at the same time, I feel as a writer/director/producer myself the moment he opted out and lost the rights like all franchises it became an open franchise in studio control and I can't complain all that much since they've got T4 coming as a new trilogy and they keep producing Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
As a fan, I can handle the franchise with or without Cameron in tow. I don't see or feel he's absolutely necessary.
Even then this film is optional to viewers going into either franchise, although it still factors into T4.

Here's how I picture the timeline in my head: The events of T3 would have happened , if John and Sarah hadn't been transported to the future in the pilot of SCC. Salvation picks up in the universe where T3 actually occurred.
Anyone else see it that way?

Nope.
They already stated that SCC is an entirely separate entity.
T3 still exists.
They are seperate but concurrent timelines.
One has not erased the other because both have happened.

So parallel worlds in play. One continuity living on without the other.

So, is T4 gonna ignore the events of T3 and start a whole new concurrent timeline? It seems as though that has been implied by Christian Bale previously.

It won't ignore them completely, how could it with Kate Connor being a major character.
But they ar not going to give a date for Judgment day and it will basically for a intents and purposes be separate.
Not that I as a huge fan of all 3 movies minds.
I think of them as Present trilogy and Future Trilogy already myself.
