Thanks!

I'm assuming actors are contractually obliged to attend these award shows? Having just had a quick look at the posted videos on the main site I'm amazed anybody would voluntarily attend these type of shows especially on a day off, a bunch of actors patting themselves on the back, no thanks.

Those kinds of award shows are essentially huge commercials. They're all rigged. It's not uncommon for them to give out awards to shows, movies, and games that haven't even been released yet.

Maybe they are contractually obliged, but surely well paid.

You'd bloody well want to be well compensated. I remember watching that Teen Choice Awards at my Girlfriends home (her excuse was wanting to check the fashions, yeah whatever) and by the end I thought I was going to be ill. Even Summer Glau who I'll admit to having a bit of a soft spot for came across as a Ditzy Hollywood Starlet (oh dear). To be fair I guess it's damn near impossible to maintain any semblance of maturity when your being interviewed by people on the red carpet who appear to have the mental acumen of an emotionally retarded Gerbil.

First, congratulation on watching the whole Teen Choice Awards and coming out mentally stabil, I wouldn't have made it through. Second, I work with retarded jackasses in a theatre 16 hours a day, although at first it seems impossible to bear with them but if you have to adjust, you adjust. Belive me a theatre is like a 24/7 red carpet. (And tho' we have the same name my payment is not comparable to Thomas'! But seeing Summer as a starlet...I just can't imagine.

No one is contractually obliged to go to those award shows but they do get tons of free stuff for going. They generally also have a lot of parties afterward.

Whoa... why are you hating on the Scream Awards? They're a million times better than any awards show MTV or VH1 has to offer. Plus, it's neat little thing to have right before Halloween.

Commenting on Award shows in general, The Scream Awards just happened to be the most recent. Let's face it a bunch of actors sitting about patting each other on the back while exhibiting a collective over-inflated sense of self-importance (their not) is at best an exercise in mutual masturbation by an industry notoriously populated by people with terribly fragile egos. At worst its an illustration of just how hopelessly maladjusted society has become that we even tolerate the endless stream of awards shows where celebrities are put up on pedestals that they simply don't deserve to be on. In short the fascination with all things celebrity especially amongst the younger Generation Y is arguably reaching an unhealthy level.

Teachers, lawyers, accoutants, military, etc all have awards and award ceremonies. For actors and others in the entertainment industry it's just that their award ceremonies are televised. They aren't patting their backs and reeling in their self-importance any more than any other professional getting an award for excellent work. At my work, once a month someone gets an award. Whether it's commedation medal, a bronze star or a letter of appreciation. It doesn't last 2 hours long, but then again we don't have any entertainment and we're not representing an entire industry. Are we just sitting around patting ourselves on the back while exhibiting a collective over-inflated sense of self-importance???

It's not watered down like all of those other shows.
