I love carving pumpkins for Halloween. Usually I download a template or get one from a book, but I really wanted to do an endoskeleton head this year. Since I couldn't find a template for one, I made one myself. I haven't even carved this myself yet (I'll probably do my carving Thursday night), but since Halloween is closing in I wanted to put this up in case anyone else wants to give it a try as well. Download the PDF template here.

Oooh, sweetness! Last year I carved out the Star Wars "Rebellion" crest . Last year was actually my first one in ages, having lived in apartments til last fall. And I was wondering what to carve this year... I figured maybe a Yoda face or something, being that the new Star Wars Clone Wars CGI cartoon is on the air... I just might have to do 2 this year :edit: now theres another wicked idea i had: anyone see the all white / albino type "Ghost Pumpkins" ? I'm thinking this Endo design would look uber wicked kool on one of those white pumpkins, being the endoskeleton is chrome / metallic anyways. I'm just glad I picked up a set of good 'carving tools' last year, that'll make possible for the intricate details. If I can still get ahold of a white pumpkin, i'll have to carve it up and take a picture of it. :edit #2: Ooooh, I just got a devlish idea.... *rubs hands together* ...

Oh you're so right about the white pumpkin. We bought our pumpkins last night and they had one white one. Now I'm wishing I'd gotten that. And yes, please post a picture if you carve this! I'll post a picture after I've carved mine. You did a Star Wars rebellion crest before? Wow, that sounds impressive. I think the most intricate one I ever did was Chewbacca. Took hours to carve, but it looked awesome when it was done. Hey that's cool! Can I post it on the main site? Sure.

Here you go - had to go digging for the url. starwars.com/kids/activity/crafts/f20051027/index.html My bad, was the Rebel insignia actually. I admit, probably one of the simpler designs on that page. No skin scrapping involved. It was my first carving since a kid (back then was the ye' ol' smiley face, and with your common kitchen knife, crude tools to say the least). Last year I bought a couple X-Acto knives with some interchangeable blades. The best I found was actually the mini-saw with the fine serrated teeth, cuts through the thick skin fairly quickly and effortlessly, while being fine enough to do the curves and such. If I took pictures of it, its probably still on the roll of film thats in the camera that I finished but didn't get around to developing. I should get that film processed actually, and pickup another roll of 24. I'll have to go digital one of these years For those who haven't seen white pumpkins - heres what the look like (thanks to google):

That rebel insignia still looks pretty tough! I use a mini saw from those pumpkin carving sets you can buy to do my pumpkins. It's very tiring on the hands, but works really well, especially for making tiny precision cuts.

I hope we get more photos - that turned out GREAT Tonya! Oh, you can count on mine with the white pumpkins. I'm going to put a little twist / spin on mine which i'm hoping will work out. I can't explain it, I'll just have to show it. I'll have to do them in the morning, take pictures, and drop them off to get developed 1hr rush then run pick them up...
