Lauren Fields (Samantha Krutzfeldt) is strong resourceful and courageous. After the episode "Alpine Fields" many people thought that she would be an excellent returning character. And Lauren, taking care of her sister, (off-grid) is viewed by some as a very difficult task for a teenager.
Many drew parallels between Lauren and Sarah, in both her character and how she has to take care of a baby that is responsible for the safety of humanity without anyone knowing who she really is. A task more difficult now than it was back when Sarah had John in the 80's.
Derek tells Lauren that she can stay with them, but she declines. Who else has been given this opportunity? That and the fact that everyone but John has met her (in the only episode so-far that did not have John in it) make Lauren an even more interesting character. I hope that the writers still have something in store for us.

For a one shot character, I honestly have to say she's favorite guest star out of the second season thus far. Really do hope she comes back at some point.

Yeah she really was likable, except for the part about not being the slightest bit upset about her parents being dead. She obviously survives judgement day, so there's a chance she could make another appearance at some point. I kind of doubt it, though. I don't think Alpine Fields was setting up anything since it was known to be a stand-alone episode. And being liked by the fans doesn't mean you'll ever be back or we certainly would've seen mute chola by now!

I'd imagine she had a lot of weight to bear with the death of her parents and the sudden birth of her sister and suddenly having to stay on the road due to Terminators. Something I'd wager she was dealing with offscreen once she found safehaven. In general, she had a lot of things to take on considering.
They pretty much fleshed out her character as a whole and we saw what future awaits her.
