IDW Publishing (the guys who brought you 30 Days of Night) have started a Terminator: Salvation prequel comic series, authorized by the studio. The first issue is on the shelf now.
I liked it and I think it'd be worth picking up to add to the story. It's not centered around John Connor (though we see him in a flashback) but around two main POVs. One is a former cop turned resistance commander in the ruins of Los Angeles. She's dealing with clans who want nothing to do with the resistance and terminators themselves. The other is an African muslim fighter in old Algeria, trying to stop the machines from excavating Uranium from an old mine with the help of a French doctor. Each has unique problems and different ways of dealing with them. Both, with the thirty minutes they have to talk to each other on the old satellite relay, are good friends.
The artwork was nothing spectacular, but it got the point across.
I'd recommend picking it up. IDW has always done good work and this is no different.

The artwork was nothing spectacular, but it got the point across. Looked at in the comic's shop recently had the same reaction. I'll wait until the trade hits this summer before fully judging it.
