Since he's aware of matters now and has seen the capability or at least witnessed the aftermath of a Terminator's attack.
What do you all think Charley's fate will be in the season ahead?

Well, we know he has a scene with John and I'm assuming generalized low-key pining over Sarah (because Michelle Dixon is cool but she's no Sarah Connor) and probably interaction with Ellison of the "no, I don't know where they are either, no for real this time, I drove past and the house that I don't know about was all covered in police scene tape and I'm kind of freaked and hoping that my formerly-emo sort-of-would-have-been stepson shows up to angst at me about how hard it is to be the saviour of the world so I know that he and his hot mom are okay (the robot stepsis, though is totally creepy). Personally, I'm hoping the uncle was in the jeep... if, you, know, I knew that Sarah Connor was alive" variety.

Not sure what his fate will be, but really hoping he atleast has one. Hopefully they kinda keep the same formula as last season. He was around but not every episode. I like Charley but not sure if I would like him around all the time. But, it did make me happy to see him again.

He'll help the Connors during a fight with a Terminator, get hit in the head, lose his memories, move to New York to become a beeper salesman, and begin a relationship with a sketch comedy show writer named Liz Lemon.

It's pretty clear from the brief shots you see of upcoming episodes it looks like he's being written in as more than just a fill in actor. You've got that scene at the service station with Cromartie taking off in the pickup with Charlies wife along for the ride of her life. If Cromartie kills her, hey the guys on a role, then that will pretty much seal Charlie's fate. There's no way he can realistically just go back to his normal job and pretend all this doesn't concern him, because he's in it - up to his neck whether Sarah likes it or not.

Well, we're up to episode 10 - just two more before the hiatus.
And Charley is no where to be seen. Did he just walk away from the grave and out of the series?
Or are they holding him back for the back nine?
Zack?

His name comes up in the sides for 2x13 (which I think is "Earthlings") but I suspect that was a cut & paste for Ellison.

It'll be a shame if they don't bring him back. The chemistry is really great between him and the rest of the Cast, and if you've seen the deleted scene from D&D it really shows how he really helps weigh the characters back down to normalacy (is that a word?)
Dean is a great actor too, his character on Oz was one of my favorites through the series.

I liked Charley, but given how things happen in the terminator universe, he should stay gone. At least until after j-day. It would be neat if we saw him in the background of a future war scene or Derek remembers at some later date that he interacted, just once, with Charley in the future.

I really think he should come back for a whole host of reasons.
First, he would be a way for Sarah to get her head back together by re-uniting with him.
Second, he would be a useful influence on John. John has no father figure at this time - Derek doesn't even remotely quality, although he could if they decided to write him that way. Charley wanted kids and obviously loves John, so his joining the team would be very valuable.
Third, he has useful skills, being a medic who can patch the Connors up so they don't end up in hospitals, like Riley and Sarah currently. This is so obvious.
Fourth, Dean is a good actor. If they'd modify his character just a little bit so he's a bit more aggressive, as a result of his wife's death, while not turning into a bitter character, he'd play perfectly.
Fifth, they could use the interactions between his character with his perspective and the other characters to further character development for all of them.
There are so many good reasons to bring Charley back. The only one against that I can see is that he might complicate the plots and be a "fifth wheel" to the existing four member Connor team. But in my view, it's precisely because of his being a "fifth wheel" that the character could be turned to an advantage.

^^ I agree except for the part about making his character more aggressive - it's become a cliche to kill off a loved-one as a way of Rambo'ing up a character.
Thematically, I liked that Charley falls apart when confronted by Michelle's injury - it underlined the compassion that I consider the character's distinguishing trait and, by extension, what draws Sarah and John to him. They've lived a hard life and they guard their emotions even with each other, which is why Charley's openness is attractive to them. I don't think it worked in the finished episode as well as it needed to but that Charley can't summon the dispassion or the cold-bloodedness to hang tight and wait for help (and that he brings that same compassion to the surface in Sarah, which she believes she can't afford) underscores just how cold Sarah, Derek and John have to be to survive at Robot!War.
I think if you bring Charley back with that stock "I want lost my love, now you must pay"-Punisher-esque kind of character development, you lose what makes the character unique on the show in general and special to Sarah and John in particular.
That said, he's an important piece of this season's puzzle that needs to be resolved.

True but he's one of two characters outside of John Connor's blood family that know Kyle Reese is his father and the only contemporary character besides Ellison who knows John and Sarah Connor are still alive. In a story where questions of identity are a pressing part of the plot, Charley Dixon remains a loose end.

I'm not even sure Cameron knows about Kyle but I bet she'd kill Charley "just to make sure" if she could.
