Charley doesn't have to become "Rambo", he just has to be a little more hardened, a little more worldly. That would be a natural response to the situation. He might have been crying over losing Michelle, but he's not a weakling. Once he sorts things out, he has to realize that he's a part of this business now and, like Ellison, he needs some resolution, some involvement to make it all make sense.
Derek and Cameron probably wouldn't kill him, because Sarah and John would go ballistic if they did.
Again, as a "loose end", he really should be brought onto the team, whether Derek likes it or not. Derek is a bad ass soldier and he thinks Charley is a weakling. It would be fun to see him set right about that, because I don't see Charley that way at all. He's a paramedic - how weak can you be and do that job?
The big advantage for John is he gets a father figure who can really be a father. Derek can't even come close.
And I'm quite sure Cameron knows Kyle is John's father. She was there when the blood test was done, and if Charley could put two and two together (although he thought initially it was Derek), Cameron certainly can. She knows that Kyle was sent back to protect Sarah and she knows exactly when - 16 years and nine months from their time jump. She knows human reproductive biology - so she knows Kyle is John's father. She just hasn't had any reason to say so.
Maybe if Kyle shows up in the next couple episodes and not just in a dream sequence, she'll have reason to say so.
