Let's try to keep speculation and discussion of the return of the T-1000 in the spoiler area. These are thanks to the marvelous Vic over at TerminatorFiles. He managed to find these hidden wallpapers on the main site! I think solidifies that "Catherine Weaver" might die- but will be replaced by a T1000. What do you think? And I was just thinking lately that we really need more female Terminators than just Cameron.

It was a unique character that was a big part of what made T2 the iconic film that it was and I don't like the idea of reusing it in a TV series. That being said, I think having the T1000 be the one who kills and "replaces" Catherine is a MUCH better idea than simply having Catherine be the T1000 from the very outset. I hope that's the case.

I'll take it either way.
Though I think it's more gutsy and provocative. Not to mention forward thinking to have the T-1000 have prior knowledge...i.e. programming about how to run a corporation BEFORE it kills her.

I will take the T-1000 as long as it goes down the way Erika mentioned. If Catherine dies and is replaced by the T-1000, then that I would approve of.

Then how does she get knowledge guys?
Seriously guys from what we see in the clips so far...she shows knowledge about how to run this business...a full scale company.
If she just comes back and kills Catherine, from whence does she get the knowledge to run the company.
Answer...she must already have it.
And if she already has it....said knowledge was programmed into her.
And if said knowledge was programmed into her...Skynet was connected to the computers in this corporation....SoSkynet stored the information from the present and in the future...gave it to the We-1000.
If she just kills her and takes he place...how does she know how to act? Or run the company?
She must be programmed in some way.

I'm thinking in terms of practicality. Remember something Josh Friedman and Thomas Dekker said about the season 2 death:
Dekker said the death was a significant development in the course of the Terminator future.
Josh said he notified the actor/actress of the death of his/her character just 30 minutes before the press conference when he announced to everyone that there would be a character death.
I think it'd be a little unfair of Josh Friedman to notify someone that quickly that he/she is going to be off the show 30 minutes before a pre-season press conference. That's unless.......the character is being killed off but the actor/actress still has a job with the show.
Just saying...

Ross - there's no saying that the T-1000 isn't working in Catherine's inner circle at the company. How about the guy who she's talking to in the clip that's been posted for the premiere?
The T1000 could be her trusted adviser.

The T-1000 doesn't have a gender.
Also in terms of the show, there is the issue of budget. Sure CGI is a lot cheaper and better than it was when T2 was made but it's still very expensive. Since they keep talking about how this season will be more action packed than the last, if a T-1000 is introduced then it may play a very limited role due to budget constraints.

ahhh but in the interview Josh has said on that one of the reasons they're introducing said character is because it is cheaper than one thinks to bring it about now a days.
Yes it as a Machine does not have a Gender.
But to the humans around it...you can bet they'll refer to in under the guise of the gender it takes.
Most refer to the T-1000 in T2 as a he not an it.
On this show it will probably be referred as She.

I'm pretty sure that it still costs thousands of dollars just to do a CG shot that lasts a few seconds.
If they do introduce a new T-1000 then how do we know if it'll have a "primary" form like the T-1000 in T2? The advantage of a shapeshifter is that it can imitate several different people. When you think about it, the T-1000 in T2 should have changed into a different person every time the Connors saw it.

I agree with your last line but having 50 people cast as the T-1000 wouldn't have made him very interesting.

While I'm firmly on board the Weaver = T-1000 train, I would like to state there is another option.
There is no T-1000. These are merely publicity stills designed to keep us talking and speculating and going 'what if...?' over and over and over again and are just giant red herrings.

There is a T1000. And it's in the premier episode no less:
Josh, obviously once the premiere airs, the water cooler conversation's going to be about the first appearance of the liquid terminator, which us reporters will all keep a big secret until it airs, but still, I wanted to ask you, did you end up playing that a little bit sooner than you had ever hoped, having that character appear, and are we at a state in technology where it's cost efficient for you to try it out on a regular basis?
Josh Friedman: Did we try it out earlier than we wanted to? No. I mean, I think it's exactly when we wanted to. It sort of was serendipitous. We were working on this character and wanted to introduce somebody who was more of an antagonist, and I didn't want to do just the basic evil corporate type, so it was a natural progression, and it's done. It's expensive to do, but it's not necessarily anymore expensive to do than an endoskeleton. I mean, morphing technology and GI is something that's been kind of streamline, I think, in terms of cost over the years since it was first done. It's still time consuming. It's more just sort of, it's just the art of it, just sort of getting it right in terms of the rates of change and kind of what it looks like and the texturing. We went back and forth quite a bit in this first episode because it was the first time that we'd done it.
I'm not on board with it running a corporation and being this perfect emulator of humanity. It's reaching too far too early. And it takes too much away from Cameron.
I'm ok with it replacing Catherine at some point. But then it should be quirky just like the other machines, not a 'bitchy corporate exec' as I've seen described in a review. It could still run the company one way or another, my problem is that Catherine seems too perfect, creepy but still very much human.
My opinion may yet change of course.
