So who's work inspires you to push on w/ your fanart?
I have 3 - 2 are old inspirations and 1 I just found.
First up is my friend Sid who I knew from my Smallville days.
Sid helped me to perfect my illustrated look, w/o his knowing that he did it. He's also the only person who I've ever known who's been able to perfectly replicate my style w/o my ever revealing to him how I do it - he just knows Photoshop that well. He's told me before that his pieces take so long to make because he sometimes uses up to 50 layers to make a single piece.
Sid excels at blending. Take the piece above for example. He's got something like 6 images that he's used on the wallpaper and all of them beautifully overlap w/o ever looking like a mess. He also maintains symmetry and pleasing eye control w/ his composition.
He's a lot like me and loves vibrant colors. I learned how to smooth out my images from him.
Check out his work here.
Zugma
Zugma is flat out extraordinary. Her work leaves my jaw on the floor w/ every update. She's masterful at blending and incorporates promo photos, caps, and stock photos into creating the most amazing pieces of art. She takes stock pics and incorporates them to make amazing scenes - like the wall below to tell all new stories.
Then she occasionally treats us to her manips. This one in particular left me breathless - the shattered skin effect, turning one eye into a demon eye w/ Dean's hair on fire just blew my mind. Looking at Zugma's work always makes me strive to think outside the box and try to push my work farther.
Her Website and Livejournal
Simon
I've decided to venture back into doing some STAR WARS art and last night stumbled across this guy's website. The man has a wicked eye for composition and taking promo photos and turning them into amazing pieces that tell stories.
This piece blew my mind. The light is extraordinary on it but overall you just get a huge sense of triumph of evil from the piece.
Simon's other work sometimes seems a little cluttered to me - but his work is overall incredible. I haven't even begun completely exploring his site and can't wait to do so.
He wrote up a great page that showcases how he uses composition in his work and symmetry. I advise everyone to read it over.
