Title: The Chamber Part 1
Author: TerrasJ
Characters: Original characters - Sgt. Cooper, Cpl Cody
Rating: PG / PG13
Timeline: Sometime after Post J-Day, T-8xx Terminators are prevailent, year not specific
Story Type: Stand alone, possible one-shot or continuing series potential, exploring J-Day setting further. Could fit within TSCC
Spoilers: None
Short summary: Recent Skynet attacks have forced the Resistance to scout out and explore more locations for outposts and safe shelters.
Notes: While TSCC predominately features T888's, there still had to be models prior to the T888. I'm just leaving it open, meaning it could fit in either the main Terminator franchise, or within TSCC. Depends where I go with it I guess.

The Resistance had lost some of its underground locations thanks to well coordinated assaults by SkyNet. Sargent Cooper and Corporal Cody were sent to scout out more possible sites for use as bunkers. They headed for the city's edge, farthest from the action.
"Hey, look look up ahead." Cooper pointed to Cody as they walked along the subway tunnel. There was a blown out hole in the tunnel's left sidewall. Evident by brick and tile scattered about.
Cody mused "Hmm, definitely worth checking out."
In truth, Cooper hoped they could stop and rest her feet for a few minutes. They had been walking for hours and were almost due for checking in with HQ. In an added note she thought, it would be a nice boost for morale if they found someplace usable and secure.
The pair reached the opening, cautiously with weapons at the ready. Cooper motioned with a nod and flick of her eyes to Cody. Cody acknowledged and stepped ahead of her, back to the wall, creeping up to the edge. Cody listened for a moment, while holding his breath. So far no sound as far as he could tell. He peered around the corner, into a long dark downsloped corridor. The end of the tunnel was brighter. He must've been starring too long as a tap on the shoulder brought him back. The expression in Cooper's eyes simply begged to ask the question "Well, what?"
Cody answered in a low voice, "I'm not sure what to make of it. Its a long tunnel leading somewheres deeper below. Want to check it out?"
"I'm not too sure about this..." Cooper replied in doubt.
"C'mon, it still wouldn't hurt to scope it out. Might find something useful to report back after all."
"Here goes nothing..." Cooper muttered with a shrug under her breath as Cody stepped around the corner. She wasn't about to let her friend (and bunk mate) go in alone.
The descent down the tunnel thankfully wasn't steep. Just dark. There was however, light at the end of the tunnel. The tunnel opened to a ledge within a chamber, easily 15 feet high. The ledge was several feet in width, on either side of the room lengthwise, lined with carved pillars evenly spaced about. The actual floor was approximately three or four feet lower. The light had been coming from the ceiling, a gaping hole, as evident by the twisted rebar from the building above and debris strewn on the ground.
Cooper glanced around, then upwards. "Some place..." she said, not knowing what to make of it; except for the doorway at the far end of the room. "Looks like another room, and looks like someone's living there." The doorway and room ahead was dark, dimly lit by the orange glow of a fire or two burning.
"Well then, lets go introduce ourselves, shall we?" Cody asked.
"Lets stay in the shadow and hug the wall then." Cooper cautioned, bringing her trusty Spas12 shotgun to the ready.
"Your the boss. But Just in case... Could be a gang of squatters." Cody said thoughtfully, pulling out one of the Resistance's home made grenades.
"Now who's wondering if this was such a good idea or not?" Cooper gently ribbed Cody as they slowly walked the length of the room, careful not to let their bootsteps echo in the chamber. Lest they make themselves known prematurely. Gangs were borderline useful in distracting SkyNet on a good day; becoming extra targets with firepower in a skirmish. On a bad day they attacked anyone in small numbers, including Resistance patrols. Gangs were highly resourceful scavengers though, they needed to be to survive on their own. Which meant they also were the scourge of humanity; lawless cutthroats.
They reached the end of the room. There weren't any stairs, so Cody squatted down, propped his machine gun against the wall, and did his best to slide of the ledge, to the floor noiselessly. He then helped Cooper down, holding her body close for a lingering moment.
Cooper half smirked, then gave him a quick affectionate peck on the lips and whispered, "Can we go now Zorro?" which elicited a sheepish grin from Cody. Cooper usually had an endless variety of movie character nicknames to call Cody based on the occasion. She had a fondness for dvd movies from her childhood, a rare commodity to be found these days. He happened to have a working dvd player and a small lcd screen. And, he had a knack for being a roguish chivalrous prince, and for disobeying orders. Its how they met.
Cooper and Cody disengaged from their embrace. Picking up the weapons, Cody took the lead. It wasn't more than a dozen or so steps to the doorway's corner. Cody looked at Cooper and she nodded the go-ahead...
