Since it's popping up in discussion here, thought I would give it's own base of operations for discussion.

You know, it would be one thing if this world were like Blade Runner where machines lived human lives and - generally - didn't hurt anyone. But Cameron is a machine who looks like a beautiful girl for only one reason, to get close to and kill human beings.
It's going to take a lot for me to ship her with anyone beyond a comic relief situation that will never go anywhere.
ETA: That said, head over to the fanfic area. There's a short but exquisite one shot about the scene where Derek watches Cameron dance.

I posted about this in the T-888 thread, but since we've got a Derek/Cameron thread now, I thought I'd talk about it here too since it's fitting:
I think Derek and Cameron were lovers in the future. Derek didn't know she was a robot -- he was fooled. And once he did find out, well I think it would explain why he hates her so much. While we don't really get the sense that Derek and John are close in 2027, they could have been great friends at some point before that (Derek did say he celebrated John's 30th birthday with him). So as an advanced infiltration terminator, Cameron could have seduced Derek as a way to find John Connor.
My whole reasoning for this because of what we learned in "Vick's Chip". That episode spent a lot of time establishing that terminators can engage in intimate relationships. Here were some of the specific points that got me on the Derek/Cameron idea:
1. After finding out about Barbara being fooled by Vick, Cameron tells John "She would not be the first human to be fooled by a machine." So even though Cameron's memory was supposedly scrubbed, she seems to know that other humans have been fooled in this way by terminators.
2. When John tells Sarah about how creepy the chip is, Cameron says (about Vick and Barbara being married) "He was protecting her." To which Sarah replies, "But why? And why like that?" Derek answers "because they're twisted, that's why," while he glares at Cameron. He doesn't seem the slightest bit surprised about a terminator being able to hook up with a human.
3. When Sarah and Derek are in Vick & Barbara's house, talking about them being a couple, Derek asks "Think you'd know?" Sarah says "I know I'd know." It just seemed like the kind of thing to ask if you'd been fooled yourself before.

This ship is intriguing. The fact that he wouldn't date a machine. But the hint and possibility is interesting.

Oh good lord Tonya that's fascinating. It might also explain why Derek was so pained watching Cameron dance at the end of THE VICK'S CHIP. It would make sense that he could've been fooled during the time of war...interesting...

I was thinking the same thing since Tonya brought it up. I can see Derek blindly getting involved with her and then completely being ripped apart by the fact in the basement. Emotionally, not physically by her appearence there.

Another thing that I think really speaks for Derek/Cameron was that when John found the tape and Derek was all "you don't know what being inside four walls can do to a person", I somehow got the sense that he was talking about some of his own mishaps (now, since I'm very much intrigued by Derek/Cameron, I'd love it if it turned out that he was once fooled by Cameron or something like that . I don't know if that made sense

I was thinking the same thing since Tonya brought it up. I can see Derek blindly getting involved with her and then completely being ripped apart by the fact in the basement. Emotionally, not physically by her appearence there. I've thought about the possibility that maybe Cameron (still being Derek's lover at the time) was going to be tortured in the "basement" if Derek didn't give up the location of the bunker. So he does, only to find out Cameron is actually a machine on Skynet's side. Devastating... He gets his heart broken and causes the deaths of countless resistance fighters because of Cameron. For that scenario to work, though, the "Cameron" he sees later at the other bunker would have to be a different Cameron than in that basement since she'd been reprogrammed to work for the resistance. And while that's entirely possible (we saw there was a whole room full of Vicks made), I prefer the idea that Cameron is one-of-a-kind. She's more intriguing if we know that whatever happened in the future between her and Derek, it was her and not just another machine that looked like her.

I like that one of a kind possibility as well. Maybe the Cameron from the present timeline survived Judgement Day and was the one in the basement or the post-Judgement Day version.

Fantastic theory Tonya. That would be really interesting. But I still wouldn't ship them. LOL!

I was totally not into this pairing until I watched this video. But now I think I'd maybe be all right with it if they went in that direction, despite my John/Cam leanings. Check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK4bbgVIupU
