Wow, so I watched "Heavy Metal" tonight and I noticed when John is online looking @ the page dedicated to the suicide girl, I noticed a message that said "too bad... you were hot." Is it bad that I chuckled when I seen that? No, that was funny. I chuckled as well. That's what high school kids would post on a page like that.

The first 5 episodes of this first season are probably my favorite.

It's sad, I find the main storyline for this episode the weakest of all 9 episodes and the secondary storylines (school, Cromartie) better than most others. It's a real paradox. When re-watching the season with files I downloaded I usually skip it.
This was simply far too close to 'terminator of the week' for me even though Carter isn't destroyed. Plus, I find most of the sequence in the first warehouse (where Cameron beats up the guard and the truck is stolen) just ridiculously bad. I really had serious worries about the series after this episode.
Then Queen's Gambit and Dungeons and Dragons were the next two episodes back to back and I was utterly and totally blown away.

Dungeons and Dragons still stands out as my favorite of the season.
I was rather pleased at how well they've moved beyond the standard Terminator of the week approach.

I'm with you. I thought Heavy Metal was the weak spot in the season. It had good idea, but they just didn't work well and it fell flat. And yeah Queen's Gambit and D&D ratcheted things up nicely after that.

I love Queen's Gambit. It's nice seeing Cameron take it to the Brett Favre T-888.
Since Michael Phelps wasn't swimming last night, I thought the reruns ratings would be better but they weren't.
As a matter of fact, it lost more than half the lead-in from a rerun of Bones, ouch.

It was also Heavy Metal, possibly the worst episode of season 1. It looked like it had been building slightly with each episode, finally getting to 1.0 in the Demo, but it stunk up the ratings tonight. Luckily, these are reruns, and not the real show. The reruns of Prison Break sucked just as badly ratings wise.
Since the reruns started House only has done slightly better with reruns and Bones is the only one to do significantly better than the reruns.
I'm absolutely not worried until the Sept 8 ratings are available.

I'm absolutely not worried until the Sept 8 ratings are available. Same here. They've got it on during the Olympics, they're not expecting big ratings. But the ratings are still probably higher than we're hearing because I'm sure plenty of people are DVRing it. FOX has been promoting the heck out of this show over the past few weeks, so the season premiere ratings should be great. I can't imagine anyone who watched last season not tuning in and there will no doubt be plenty of new viewers as well.

That's one thing that I'm actually proud to see FOX doing for a change. Not letting up on updates. It's a truly nice change, when it comes down to sci-fi/action based shows being promoted heavily.

Well I'm in the minority...I LOVED Heavy Metal...simply because of what they did in it.
I was yearning for a change of pace and found a great story to boot.
Different folks like different styles and this just jived for me.

I really had serious worries about the series after this episode. Agreed, the warehouse scene was so ridiculously portrayed I groaned when I first saw it. A security guard or Police officer for that matter is never going to be seen stomping about with a drawn sidearm when there is no apparent threat. At best it was a lame attempt at making you think that the guard was Cromartie, at worst it was just plain piss-poor directing in what was one of the weaker episodes.

I have to say I liked the "Heavy Metal" episode mostly for the scenes where Sarah told the thug he could go if he could get past Cameron. Then they cut to him in the truck, and Cameron is smiling smugly at him. That was just hilarious without being stupidly comic.
And the part where John has to lift the key off Carter was fairly tense - although I don't understand why a Terminator wouldn't be reactivated if something crossed his visual field while he was powered down. That's sure the way I would have programmed them!
The only problem with that episode is that it didn't do much to advance the overall plot line. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Terminator Carter re-appear at some point in the future, since I doubt you can keep a Terminator in a bunker forever. It also implies that there are more Terminators around than we know and that they've been around longer than we know. I would like to see that concept developed further, without necessarily bringing in an "army of Terminators" all over the place.
Catherine Weaver pretty well establishes that concept, too, since it's unlikely she just showed up last week and took over the original Weaver's place just in time to buy The Turk. My guess is she's been around a while. Maybe there never was an original human Weaver.
