I just picked up on a few tidbits about Andy Goode from The Turk that I never really gave much weight before. When Sarah and Andy are having dinner, he mentions dropping out of college in his senior year to help out his mom after his father died. Then he mentions that his mother ended up marrying the security guard at her bank. When he and Sarah are walking through the park, he says that he's devoted 8 years of his life to The Turk. In The Demon Hand Andy's grave marker shows his birthdate as 1978. That would make him a senior in college in September of 1999.
8 years ago, in September 1999, Cameron knocked down a security guard at a bank in Los Angeles before she and Sarah and John went into the vault and time jumped to 2007. Coincidence? I'm thinking there might be some connection. Maybe somehow the course of Andy's life was altered because of their time jump and as a result, he didn't build Skynet.
I'll throw out a scenario: In 1999, Andy's father could have been driving past that bank when it blew up, got distracted by the explosion, crashed his car and died. That, in turn, caused Andy to drop out of school to help his mom. Because he didn't graduate, maybe he didn't join that team of computer geniuses that created the AI mind that became Skynet. Instead, he spent his time tinkering away on a chess computer he called The Turk. And that brings us up to what we know of Andy Goode in 2007. I don't really think the security guard is of any significance other than to maybe help draw attention to the time jump event. But just for fun, the security guard Cameron knocked down could be the man Andy's mom ended up marrying.
In 2027, Andy Goode told Derek he'd created Skynet. But that 2027 was one in which Sarah and John hadn't time jumped. So that could be a future in which Andy did graduate from college and did join that group of computer geniuses that created the AI mind that became Skynet.
If Andy had lived, maybe he would have done what he said he was going to do -- figure out why The Turk has moods. Maybe he would have been the guy to understand AI enough to know the dangers before it was ever used for something like a military defense system. The way Andy keeps coming up over and over again in the show (not to mention his obvious "Goode" name) just makes me think that the Andy we knew wasn't responsible for Skynet and that there's still more to his story.
EDIT: THIS THEORY IS UPDATED FURTHER DOWN.
