That would be very bad if we get cut short again. They need to sync up al these union contracts so writers, directors and actors all strike at the same time if renewal negotiations fall apart They just need to be crushed under my oppressive regime and forced to entertain me at my leisure! ... did I just say that out loud? I like the way you think. Well, assuming your idea of entertainment never conflicts with mine. Otherwise, my oppressive regime would have to overthrow yours ;D

So, the NY board of directors for SAG just rebelled against the LA branch and demanded a cease of the strike authorization vote and a return to negotiations. They've also demanded the entire negotiating team be sacked immediately.
This could get really, really messy.

I have to wonder if Evil Jesse is behind all this.

The country is in a recession and California is facing a huge budget crisis, the state's credit is so bad that it can't even borrow money anymore. Unless SAG members are completely unaware of the situation, I really don't think they're going to authorize a strike. If they strike, they'll get almost no support from the public.

.....then I expect people will either flock fully into video games or used books or some other cheap form of entertainment and likely never return. Which wouldn't necessarily be such a bad thing. The more cynical would suggest that with Generation Y we have bred a generation that simply doesn't read books anymore, in fact if it isn't available with a click of the remote or a few keystrokes Gen Y simply isn't interested. So let these actors go on strike, they certainly wont get a scrap of sympathy from me but if their deluded actions inadvertently cause some kids to visit a Library who might otherwise have never contemplated such a thing then perhaps some good could come from their silly little strike.

A-Listers and Top TV Stars just sent a big petition to the heads of the SAG requesting they cancel the strike vote. On that list was our own Garret Dillahunt and guest star Bruce Davison (Dr. Silberman). I checked for Lena, Summer, and Thomas and didn't see their names. Link is here.More info on the strike. Fox (dunno if it will affect TSCC since it's shot by WB) is looking heavily into switching ALL of its shows to AFTRA. If it can successfully do that, SAG is dead because every other studio will immediately follow suit. SAG will only have movies at that point. Source is Deadline Hollywood.

Could SAG be coming to their senses? They're delaying the mailing of the ballots for an emergency meeting to be held around Jan 12 to possibly discuss the strike authorization. Variety

Thanks to all of you for keeping the news coming! I really thing you may be right about AFTRA becoming the TV actors union while SAG goes for film.
Quick quiz- who can name the most successful independent film studio- that has earned BILLIONS of dollars- in the world that is not tied to any unions?

SAG Chief Doug Allen doesn't believe a strike would shut down the industry. I would seriously like to know what this guy is smoking because he seems to be operating in a parallel universe. TV Guideedit note: fixed your typo to make the link work Thanx, the fingers and eyes don't always work so well at 5 am.

Um, as a union girl, I thought the purpose of a strike was precisely to shut down the industry.
Otherwise what the hell was I doing freezing my ass off in front of my office building for eight weeks in 2002?

It looks like the majority faction in SAG is now seeking ouster of the negotiating committee and will attempt to revoke the authorization for a strike vote. LA Times with the article. When all your A list stars are breaking ranks and the words 'fi-core' are being tossed around by the mouthpieces of that faction, your goose is cooked. I think this dies without a strike at this point.
