SAG will not get 75 percent of the actors to agree to a strike...just not gonna happen.

Yeah you've got to be kidding, seriously who's going to approve that when huge numbers of people are out of work and our country is on the brink of a depression?
I don't understand why the AMPTP can't just throw SAG a small bone - the actors would take it at this point rather than strike.

Well, I've found that people around here are generally out of touch with the rest of the country and for that fact much of the city around them. They don't tend to look very far past their own little bubbles of existence. It's not just limited to the entertainment industry either, I've found similar attitudes in the legal sector also. It's very frustrating.

The thing is as a SAG member I don't think we should get anymore than the rest.
Granted I don't get much work...but the upper echelon actors don't need anything more.
And those of use who don't get much work aren't really affected in any way.
It's just stupid to me that we're so dumb that we can't agree to what's on the table.

I knew this was going to get out of hand. They've been having problems for months. This is a terrible time for a strike especially with the bad economy, which will mean people are going to spend less on entertainment, but a lot of people in the entertainment industry are out of touch with reality. The gaming industry has already suffered from the economic problems and movies and TV won't be far behind.

Even PROFESSIONAL SPORTS are reporting that revenues are down! When sports are down- that is the last bastion of things in the entertainment world.

I've seen various figures floating around that the Writer's Strike, for the hardship it brought about, garnered only about $160/yr per writer extra. That really, really puts the value of what is being fought for in perspective. The value of the changes for actors isn't much more.
And with an economic downturn, television is one of the cheapest entertainment venues we have. The writer's strike drove people into the open arms of video games and movies and cable television (which had finished their seasons already). If TV isn't available (other than Idols Dancing with the Survivors VIII: Boise Edition) then I expect people will either flock fully into video games or used books or some other cheap form of entertainment and likely never return.
The only thing we can maybe find as good about this, at least as Terminator fans, is the chance that if T:SCC finishes its shooting before the strike and the strike kills any chance of a pilot season and chance at any new shows being set up and ready as next season and mid season replacements that could leave Fox with no choice but to renew whatever it happens to have on its schedule already.
But that's a lot of bad things to happen for that scenario. I hope there is no strike. I don't want the below the liners to lose their jobs.

Strikes suck. My contracts up at the end of the year and we're all looking around thinking "urgh, can you guys get us cost of living and hold onto our current benefits?" and even that seems like a longshot.
I imagine a lot of SAG members feel the same way.

Awww crap, things are not looking good. The AMPTP just bought an ad in tomorrow's LA Times against SAG.

From Variety: SAG will send out ballots on Jan. 2 with voting to be tabulated on Jan. 23. There's probably not going to be very many xmas vacations this year as I'm betting tv shows and movies will push through the holidays to get as much filming completed as possible.

I really hope that TSCC can get through episode 22 by that time. What are they on now? 17? 18? I wouldn't be surprised to see them skip the Christmas break to finish.

That would be very bad if we get cut short again. They need to sync up al these union contracts so writers, directors and actors all strike at the same time if renewal negotiations fall apart
