As for how Sarah and John reacted to seeing Derek, I thought it was perfect: Sarah looks stunned and goes blank. John looks like he might puke. In the next scene, John is sitting by himself, Sarah is reloading her guns and Cameron is keeping watch - we've seen all of these reactions to trauma before from the character but I think I love most of all that Cameron reacts to Derek's death by being pissed at Ellison. In a very mechanical way, of course. Honestly... I think my reaction was the exact same as John's. I seriously felt like I was gonna puke or faint or... I don't know. But my brain pretty much imploded at the end of this ep. Especially with Sarah getting arrested. I only saw that coming because I was one of the nerds who took the magnifying glass to the promo pic and searched for the spoiler. Still, my reaction to that was as angry as John's. I realize the other cop probably just followed Ellison without his knowing, but I still wanted to leap through my TV and kick the snot out of him. *pushes John aside* No John, you're not going to kill Ellison. Because I'M going to get to him first!!! *leaps at her TV screen!

Derek = pwned. It's about time, too. While I enjoyed him in season one, BAG's acting this season has been beyond dull and boring. Not to mention he gives his character little to no subtext and it almost seemed like he wasn't into his role this time around. I'm sure most of you won't like me for saying this, but it's just my honest opinion. Thank God this show is starting to cut down on all of its weaknesses (Jesse, Riley, and Derek) and now it's getting back to basics. My biggest complaint all season is that this hasn't been 'Terminator' brand and it's been nothing like season one, which is a very bad thing, IMHO. Now, all they need to do is fix John's character and stop using ridiculous lines like "I bet future John would beat my ass right now for crying" or w/e. That's a weak way to answer back to the critics... just put the dude out there and let him finally do his thing. But yeah, this episode was very good and the quality of the writing was on point. This WAS a season one episode. This IS how the show should be week in and week out. It's unfortunate in a way, 'cause this show has one of the most inconsistent writing staffs I've ever seen. If they could only capture the multiple contrasts and subtleties like they did in this episode and display them on a weekly basis, this WOULD be the best show on TV. Anyway, I can't wait to see more of this 'new' terminator. I'm loving the interaction between Savannah and John Henry. While I still dislike Shirley's acting, her character still plays a major role in the show. Agent Ellison is still kinda stuck in the middle of it all, hopefully there's a payoff. Cameron and John are still taking a backseat for the most part, that's a big mistake. Sarah has been an annoyance this season, but she finally showed emotion and kicked some ass tonight. All in all, this show should get atleast a 13 episode order to see if they can put together a string of GREAT episodes as opposed to being hit or miss. Episodes like tonight prove that they can produce MAJOR QUALITY, they just have to be more consistent. Definitely enjoyed this episode and I can't wait to see the season finale.

Great episode. As a huge Garbage / Shriley Manson fan, I thought it was absolutely hilarious when Savannah told Weaver she couldn't sing. I think after tonight's episode, Savannah is my 2nd favorite character after Weaver. *gasp* Sacrilige, I know. That little girl has a very bright acting career ahead of her.
One of the biggest things I like about the show is that the line between good and evil is often very blurry. Everyone has their own mission and their own slightly different view of what's "right" or what's the best thing do to. That especially came through tonight, I thought.

I like the way Derek died, by a terminator while out on a mission. No girlfriend duplicity, but out doing the right thing. On the other hand, quick deaths of both Charley and Derek back to back seem like a waste of character development. That's in spite of the fact that both were usurped by the future girls last year. one thing i didnt get...the terminator at the end when SC was getting beat and arrested......why didnt he just start shooting and trying to kill her. not like the cops can do anything about it. He was there following her the cops to get Savannah. If it had been John coming out of the building, the shooting would have started.

I thought Shirley was great tonight. Great. Considering she'd never acted professionally before. She's like a different performer. Partly it's that I know the character now, I see the spaces that are deliberately being painted out where before I just saw a blank. And word about "not singing".

I guess Derek's story really did come full circle. He killed Andy Goode, which resulted in the The Turk landing in Catherine Weaver's hands. Now Sarah and John know about John Henry and are no doubt going to be closing in on him and Weaver.
So what's going to happen when Sarah and john meet John Henry face to face? Sarah will want to blow the place to bits, no doubt. But John Henry is Savannah's friend. And John, having a bond with Cameron, is going to be able to understand that. I'm wondering if that will make John NOT want to destroy JH. I'm curious how that will play out.

I just realized, Alpine fields flashed fowarded 6 months into the future, so according to that episode Derek should be alive. Guess that's what happens when you don't have everything mapped out.

No, Alpine Fields jumped the story ahead 6 months, it's didn't give us a flash-forward look ahead. It was a time lapse you just kind of have to piece into the earlier parts of the season. The on glaring mistake was Mr Ferguson is Ill Today, which they kind of screwed up the dates with. So you have to ignore the Mexico trip happening in November

I'd love that to be the case, since it would mean that a nicer Derek came back from the future after the Derek who annoyed me died but it's pretty clear that season two takes place over a period of time that's easily longer than six months (while season one stretched between fourth week of August-2 week of November 2007). AF takes place in two different times separated by six months but we don't know when the initial time period is set except that it occurs after "The Mousetrap".

The safe house Sarah, John, Cameron, and Savannah were in, looked like the same place from Alpine Fields, were Lauren delivered her baby sister.

It was a disgrace how Derek died. John showed more emotion over Riley and random minor characters then he did for his only other living relative. Such a shame. ... If Derek was going to die, he should have had a big scene ... I just watched the show, I know I am a little late getting home from work tonight...I have to say that I disagree that Derrick's demise was a disgrace. If you look at it from the war's perspective, he died on the battle field. There is no disgrace in that. They have been foreshadowing Derrick's death for the last few episodes and basically told us how he would die. Remember when John was asking him about how long he could last against Cameron if she wanted him dead. Derrick's response was, "if she wants me dead I am dead." then john repeated it back. I knew then that was how he would die... Instantly. Although, I really thought this would happen in the finale but I saw it coming in any case. Also, I don't think John was crying so much over Riley as much as he was about his realization that anyone that gets too close to him will die. Furthermore, I think perhaps Charlie's death somewhat hardened him and allowed him to separate himself from his emotions like he did. Plus, he's numb to it right now, but I suspect that eventually he will let his emotions go, when the time is more appropriate. Right then, his life and the life of Savannah was at stake. Personally, I thought this episode drove home the theme of the show brilliantly. I loved it, and can't wait for next Friday to hurry up and get here already!

Derek's death was disappointing since he was so unprepared. It's one thing if he didn't expect it but he was just recently kidnapped and the same people are after Savannah. Even though he may not have expected a Terminator, he knew that they were dealing with professionals.
Also, I don't think that the police found Sarah by following Ellison. Otherwise Ellison would be arrested too. I'm guessing that Weaver is the one who ratted Sarah out since she knows that Sarah would want to destroy John Henry.

My money is on John Henry calling the cops. He's pretty freaked out by Sarah Connor.

Holy crap. That was insane. I can't even think.
I had such a crappy day.. stuck in Arizona and waited for forever to DL the damn thing and ... holy crap.
I'm sad we won't be seeing Derek again. At least this Derek in the present. Wow, that was so ... random. I'm not pissed that they killed him, I'm just seriously bummed out he's dead.
Cameron was so uber pissed at Ellison, I'm surprised she didn't kill him once Sarah got arrested. That machine does NOT like Mr. Ellison one bit. I loved that car scene. And for some reason, I liked the movie theater scene.. in the movie theater.
John was down there watching over Savannah. Cameron was watching over John but near Sarah to be able to talk to her and then Sarah was above overlooking everyone else. And then when Ellison showed up, Cameron got up and walked away. It reminded me of one of those gangster movies or something... Sarah is the head honcho with her muscle near by (Cameron) but walks away when there's business to attend to. And the kid off in the distance that will one day take over the family biz.
Sarah's arrest was great.. in a not great way. I knew it was gonna happen but that didn't stop my "oh damnit!" reaction. When she looked over her shoulder and saw John and took a moment.. you could see the wheels turning in there "this is my last moment, John's gotta get out of here... jus go nutso and make a distraction." I'm surprised she didn't get shot. LAPD are very quick to shoot. But her beatdown... that was sad. And I hate Ellison. I really do. He's so self-righteous! AHHH I HATE HIM! lol
Ohh and Cameron and John's talk at the .. whatever place they were at when they were talking about Sarah leaving John.. that was a great scene.
John Henry.. oh what can I say to him.. I love him but he still scares me. He might not become Skynet, but.. he still scares me.

Amazing episode. I was pretty shocked by what happened to Derek, very unexpected to see him just get caught like that, but it does a great job of reaffirming the danger of terminators. I wonder if they're building Water Cooler Man up to be the next Cromartie or if he'll be destroyed next ep..
I also really enjoy John Henry and Weaver.. so glad she's apparently making something more than just Skynet. The series is at it's best when it involves the kind of stories that wouldn't work in a film, I think, and this is one of them.
I kind of think we may see Derek again though. The one from Jesse's altered future.
