Discuss the possibility of John's girlfriend in the series here.

I don't think John would actively pursue a girlfriend since everyone who gets close to him are in grave danger. His foster parents were killed because the T-1000 was trying to get close to him. I don't think John would want that to happen to someone else.

Ahh, but that's not to say he wouldn't want one! After all, he is, despite being the future leader of mankind, a typical sixteen-year-old boy.

No doubt there will be something romantic for John. Hopefully it wont take a big part of the show.

If John does get a girlfriend, it can only end badly. Everything he tells her will be a lie. She won't even know his real name. John could disappear at any time. Terminators could use John's girlfriend to get to him.

Yeah, but it would cause lots of drama for the show. People want it- look how often questions are asked about a Cameron/John relationship in interviews.

He may not even want one, but it's hard to ignore human desire. I'd imagine in the T3verse, John had his share of one night stands and the like.
Considering we're dealing with another verse entirely, what's to say John doesn't hook up with someone that's good for him and is part of the fight in the long run.
The secrets are there, but he's well aware of the risks involved and I doubt, he would let someone fall victim to a Terminator's hand because of a relationship. It's not like that many Terminators are even aware of him at this point.

And it's exactly why they would do it. The added drama. I just trust it won't resemble any number of the sappy teenage highschool dramas out there and take over the show.

It's not like that many Terminators are even aware of him at this point. Whether or not someone falls victim to Terminators is not up to John. The only way he can ensure someone's safety is to put as much distance between them as possible. The danger with Terminators is that no one knows when one will show up. The risk will always be there so they always have to be prepared. Getting in a relationship could put him in a compromising position. Plus Cameron has already shown a disregard for human life when she sent Morris to talk to Chromartie. It's likely that she'll use John's girlfriend in a similar fashion if they were to run into trouble. They could certainly give John a girlfriend but I doubt that it'll go very far and will likely end badly.

The Connor's are well aware of what it is that their dealing with. Although they don't know when they'll attack, they know the system that their dealing with. Cameron may offer vague knowledge of the situation, but that doesn't mean the Connor's aren't well in hand. There's always danger involved with the Connor's. We're talking about day one basics here, not a complex thought and then there's the mixed in girlfriend element. There's nothing to say that this new version of John's girlfriend isn't a victim or John's future wife, just under new circumstances. Cameron was doing what she was capable of to protect the family and that's her goal at this point. Same as any Terminator. She knew the risks involved and knew it was going to toss Cromartie off the trail. A calculated risk, simple as that. At this point, we don't know what the odds are with the girlfriend at present. There's also the notion presented in The Rising Storm novel, where John fell in love with an Infiltrator that turned against the system and later died, causing John to be the cause of the war at hand. So the game is very much open. Everything he tells her will be a lie. She won't even know his real name. John could disappear at any time. Terminators could use John's girlfriend to get to him. And it's exactly why they would do it. The added drama. I just trust it won't resemble any number of the sappy teenage highschool dramas out there and take over the show. Exactly, this isn't a high school show. We may see the environment, but it's not the focus of the show at all.

We're talking about day one basics here, not a complex thought and then there's the mixed in girlfriend element. That's why Sarah left Charlie. That's why Sarah never settled down with anyone. That's the problem with a girlfriend. The Connors could skip town at any moment. If they don't leave and they develop a long term relationship, the girlfriend could learn too much about the Connors and put them in a compromising position. Anyone can be a future Resistance member. For all we know, all of the Resistance's top commanders are from John's school. However, the Connors are trying to change the future. They don't want the burden of their foreknowledge to fall on anyone else. At the same time, they don't want to put any future Resistance members in danger by associating too much with them. It put Morris at risk. She'll likely do the same to John's girlfriend if they were to encounter a dangerous situation. Another factor that John has to consider before he decides to enter into a relationship. We don't know what the odds are with a girlfriend. However, we do know that if John were to have a girlfriend, the relationship will likely end badly. You know what else would add drama? If John develops a friendship with a dying boy who needs $500,000 for an operation to save his life. If a Terminator gets damaged, loses all its memories, and is taken in by a group of gangsters who uses it to commit crimes. If the Connors decide to go public with the whole Terminator thing and bring Cameron to the press. Just because something adds drama doesn't mean they should do it.

Mod Voice - Since there is no stated material about John's girlfriend this season thus far. I wanted to make it vividly clear, that there are no actual facts in play. So I'm issuing this general statement since just we're getting stuck in the "She's going to die" standard.
Unless you work for the show and are actually behind the production, DO NOT STATE AN OPINION AS FACT UNLESS THERE'S ACTUALLY FACTS SUPPORTING THAT EVIDENCE. Simple as that. You can theorize but DO NOT STATE OPINION AS FACT.

The topic of a girlfriend or partner for John is one I considered starting a LONG time ago, when I was planning my T3 script and long before I met Mr. Cameron.
There were a great many reasons why it would be good idea to have added a girl in his life. In the end it didn't find it's way into my T3 script but it was always there and of course it ended up being something that I did question Cameron about.
We discussed it on each meeting and with great passion.
What would it add to his character? What would it take away? Would it ruin him as a soldier and leader? Would it help him to have an ally- a release valve?
In the end we came to the conclusion that a girl/woman in his life, especially through the Future War would be an asset and a crutch. It would enable us to add a number of layers to his character. One of a Lover, and possible father, fighting a war on three fronts.
1: A War over Love: Love for his Wife and the passion of their togetherness.
2: A War over Knowledge: This knowledge that his love might be a weakness. Or that his lack of Love might lead him to become as emotionless and self destructive as his enemy.
3: A War over The Future War: How will his relationship affect his ability to command the war? Will the Relationship be the one thing that anchors him in reality? Will his command and the wars victories and defeats ebb and flow with the passion he finds in renewed humanity and pasion through his relationship?
We came to the conclusion that giving him someone to love- (even before Kate became a reality) - was a smart idea.
We felt he needed someone close. Someone who he could share his dreams and fears with. Someone who though she might find him strange until she sees things for herself, would accept him and his baggage as assets.
Who would help along with his mother to turn him into this great leader. Fight by his side, and even adore him in the future , Love the man who at times would seem as distant to her love as the Moon is from the Earth.
My biggest point (And I will use an example from my soon to be released T5 script). Is that John could and would at times become this Solitary figure ...this Ahab.
And he'd need this ANCHOR...this chain of passion and love..to remind him of what the REALITY was.
From T5: Ashes of War
KATHERINE I'm here my Love...I have not been turned to dust. Our children have not been turned to dust. And you will not be turned to dust.
GENERAL CONNOR I- I let them go. They're gone.
KATHERINE Yes...yes they are. But they are ready My Love. And who are we not to place our children in harms way.
Connor nods.
Relaxes into her arms.
GENERAL CONNOR I am sorry I am so...so...weak. Weak when I need to be strong.
KATHERINE You are stronger than anyone I know. You are anything but weak. You are simply human- and I'd rather you be human than anything else.
GENERAL CONNOR How can you love me for what I do?
She looks at him deeply, so full of love, that you know she's reaching to his soul.
KATHERINE I Love you...for who you are. And what you do is just a small part of who you are.
John needs someone.
I hope he finds that someone.
And I hope it's someone who lasts.

It's all fine and dandy to talk about how giving John a love interest could improve the character but my point is that there is a great degree of danger associated with it.
The movies didn't have the time to deal with how the Connors were affected by all the people killed by Terminators. Sarah never got much of a chance to mourn the death of her room mate. She didn't even get a chance to mourn the deaths of her mother and Kyle Reese. The show on the other hand has the time to devote to how the Connors deal with the burdens of these deaths and how they create or break relationships with the risks in mind. With that opportunity also comes more scrutiny. Because there can be more time devoted to showing how the Connors make these decisions, there's less room for mistakes and inconsistencies. If John were to get a girlfriend, it must be portrayed in such a way that takes all the risks in mind and doesn't make John look like an idiot who puts someone's life in danger just to get laid. If they are to continue the relationship then it has to be done plausibly and not end up like the Superman and Lois Lane thing where it took Lois about a billion years to figure out that Superman is Clark Kent.

I have a feeling that those behind T;SCC are markedly more coherent than that...and they will put more than enough thought into the situation.
