Exclusive: Anton Yelchin on Star Trek and Terminator 4 The Charlie Bartlett star on his journeys through space and time. by Joe Utichi | March 28, 2008 Anton Yelchin, the young star of Alpha Dog and Charlie Bartlett, has a bright future ahead, with starring roles lined up as Chekov in J.J. Abrams Star Trek retake and in McG's upcoming Terminator sequel. RT caught up with the actor recently to talk Bartlett, and couldn't resist grilling him about his burgeoning blockbuster career. On the quick development of T4, Yelchin could reveal little except to say that cameras were due to roll in May and he was excited to be a part of the franchise. "I don't really know how much I can say when it comes to Terminator, except that Christian Bale is in it and he plays John Connor," Yelchin told us. "But I love the first two movies and they're a central part of my childhood. They're great, big, epic sci-fi movies and they're smart and fun at the same time so I just love to watch them." But the actor, born in the USSR, was more forthcoming when talk turned to Star Trek. "Shooting has been great fun," he told RT, "and I've just finished my part, but I think they're still going. "It's a prequel, but I think it really remains very respectful to the original show while, at the same time, bringing something new to it. Older fans will be very pleased because they'll see their favourite characters and they'll recognise them." Of his take on Chekov, he reassured us that he had been remaining true to the character's spirit. "Of course I'm doing the accent," he laughed, "this movie is about a return to your favourite characters but with new stuff too. You'll see the classic Chekov -- I just brought something of myself to it as well." And it's a take that has impressed Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original show. "I met him, but I actually did it after I was done with the majority of my part," Yelchin said. "I got to talk to him and figure our what he thinks about us making it and he was really pleased and oddly gracious as well." The movie, he said, will succeed because of Abrams' drive to do right by the franchise. "He's wonderful," Yelchin told us, "and he's got so much enthusiasm and energy. More than I've seen in any director I've worked with. He's got the same energy now, if not more, than he did on day one of shooting, and that just amazes me. I think it's just really quite an achievement as a director to be like that because it's a really, really difficult job and it's time-consuming and the hours are really long and it's hard. That he manages to be the way he is, to me, is incredible." Yelchin can next be seen in You and I, Roland Joffé's latest about two teenage girls, played by Mischa Barton and Shantel VanSanten, who fall in love after meeting at a t.A.T.u concert. He revealed to RT that the film will premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival in May. Source

Humm I don't see how this jives with the last news we had of them calling for extras: Has T4 Been Shut Down? Posted by Cybergosh on 04/18 at 01:37 AM McG’s “T4”, which was in active pre-production for a May 2009 release, may have been shut down by Warner Brothers. According to my source, a crew member was recently overheard discussing his newfound free schedule due to the production shutting down. Terminator 4’s cast includes Christian Bale as John Connor, Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese and Avatar’s Sam Worthington. No word yet on how official this is, although I expect an official announcement soon. I don’t see this as bad news. While I’m not necessarily a McG-hater, I just wasn’t feeling this. The saga has been driven into the ground at this point and needs to be terminated altogether. I’d rather hear that they’ve shut down to regroup and make this the best it can be rather than have it fast-tracked and half-assed. Although, if it were my judgment day, this production wouldn’t have even gotten as far as it had. SourceUnless we get a formal announcement - I'm not posting this on our main page, sounds rather rumor-ish to me, like maybe someone got fired and was spreading rumors.

‘Terminator’ sequel eyes lead - Moon Bloodgood in final talks for role
Moon Bloodgood is in final negotiations for the female lead in McG’s “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.” Bloodgood will star alongside Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin in the fourth installment of the sci-fi series, being produced by Halcyon Co. and set for a Warner Bros. release in summer 2009.
Bloodgood will play a no-nonsense and battle-hardened member of the resistance.
Halcyon’s Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson are producing with Moritz Borman and Jeff Silver. David Campbell Wilson, John Brancato and Michael Ferris wrote the screenplay. Peter Graves, Dan Lin and Jeanne Allgood are exec producing.
Principal photography is set to begin May 5.
Bloodgood starred in NBC’s short-lived series “Journeyman” and is shooting “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.” She also appears in “What Just Happened.”
Bloodgood is repped by Paradigm, Caliber Media, and attorneys Dave Feldman and Patrick Knapp.

The shutdown rumor is most likely bunk...specially since they're still hiring cast members.

SCHWARZENEGGER STILL MULLING OVER TERMINATOR ROLE Action man-turned-California Governor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER has given TERMINATOR fans the hope that he could return for a fourth film - if it’s shot in his adopted state. The Austrian-born superstar isn’t involved in Terminator 4, which will star Pathfinder actress Moon Bloodgood and Christian Bale, but he insists he hasn’t ruled out a return to the franchise. He says, “I’ve never had a dialogue with anyone about it. But if they shoot the movie in California, I would (be a part of it), yes.” Charlie’s Angels filmmaker McG will direct the fourth Terminator, in which Bloodgood will play the female lead, a survivor of a nuclear holocaust that featured at the end of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. The fourth installment will be called Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. The movie is scheduled to begin principal photography next month (May08). This news scuppers internet reports from last week (ends18Apr08), which suggested Terminator 4 had been terminated over production issues. That rumour suggested Josh Brolin would take Schwarzenegger’s place as a futuristic cyborg. Source

I like the teaser poster, it reminds me of HAL (which is what I think they're going for). I hope the Schwarzenegger stuff is just that much chatter in the air though, it's time for the franchise to move on.

‘Terminator’ guns for kid-friendly rating Halcyon aims to deliver PG-13 movieVariety The “Terminator” will indeed be back — but this time with a more kid-friendly rating. As production starts today on “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins,” the next installment in the action franchise, producers at the Halcyon Co. say they aim to deliver a PG-13 movie to Warner Bros. for release on May 22, 2009. The “Terminator” series is one of the highest-grossing R-rated franchises of all time, with the first three films having grossed more than $1.03 billion worldwide. But Halcyon producers thought it was time to broaden the upcoming fourth film’s audience base, and they believe the PG-13 won’t compromise the series’ gritty vision. “The ratings have changed,” said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Victor Kubicek, a broker-turned-writer-producer. “The PG-13 has increased in intensity.” Move follows last year’s “Die Hard” film, “Live Free or Die Hard,” which went out with a PG-13 after three prior R-rated installments. That pic went on to gross $382.1 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing in the series. A family-friendly rating opens many doors, including a “Terminator Salvation” licensing deal for action figures with Playmates Toys. “Our merchandising program will be the largest to date for ‘The Terminator,’ ” said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Derek Anderson, ex-owner of ad agency In the Mix, who adds that he had not discussed the possibility of an R-rating with Warners. “We won’t force it. We are carrying on in the tradition of the mythology, with an exciting approach to the action. If we can make a compelling film to reach the widest audience, why wouldn’t we do it?” Halcyon has already launched Halcyon Games to create a “Terminator” game for release at the same time as the movie. “The first three games were all bad,” Anderson said. “The core fans are screaming for something fresh; they won’t be just playing the movie.” Anderson and Kubicek founded the Halcyon Co. in 2006 with funding from Wall Street hedge funds and private investors. They scooped up rights to the “Terminator” franchise from Carolco’s Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar for an undisclosed sum as that company was closing down in May 2007. Warners acquired rights to domestic theatrical and TV distribution on “Terminator: Salvation,” while Sony obtained international distrib rights, less some territories. Halcyon brought in Moritz Borman to exec produce and hired “Terminator 3″ scripters John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris to script. Paul Haggis did a polish. McG directs. Set in post-apocalyptic 2029, an adult John Connor, played by Christian Bale, leads the war to save humanity from the killing machines. Signing Bale, who also stars in the current “Batman” series, was a huge coup. Sam Worthington, who fronts franchise creator James Cameron’s upcoming “Avatar,” also stars. The Terminator role is still under wraps; speculation centers on Josh Brolin.
