I wonder if FOX is sorry it took TSCC off Mondays at 9 pm.
I think deciding to give up the 9 pm hour to Heroes was a mistake (says the armchair network exec).

Prison Break's bad ratings aren't surprising since they announced that it was ending pretty early on and it was on hiatus for a very long time.
24 airs on Mondays at 9 PM. Its ratings are almost three times as high as TSCC when it was on at the same time.

^^ Not quite one and a half times the winter 2008 average, actually (after the post-football numbers are thrown out); roughly twice what TSCC did at 8 pm during the first half of the season.
Also, 24 only airs January to May. Hindsight is 20-20 but I continue to wonder if TSCC would have done better in the Fall at 9 pm rather than 8. It's pointless speculation, naturally, but I wonder nonetheless.

TSCC's best ratings were in it's first season, before they put it up against Monday Night Football, and before they put it on Fridays. It's pretty much impossible to get a ratings victory over a football game (unless you run a special about Nielsen Families), and there's not enough audience on Fridays to compete with CBS, who already has the Friday drama audience locked up. If and when we get renewed next season, Fox needs to put the show somewhere where it'll have better odds. My ideal would obviously be to have American Idol as a lead in, but it'd take a lot of work on the WB's part to convince Fox that it'd be worth it. Maybe if WB sells some reruns to Sci-Fi Channel and ABC Family for cheap to run during the summer, and expose the show to a new audience, Fox will consider giving TSCC a better night. But if they're going to keep doing dumb stuff like running it against football games and putting it on nights where no-one watches TV, we're done for.

They know that Fridays are bad for TV (if the show is targeted at a young audience). So the question is: Why would they put it there anyway? Maybe they think it would do worse than other shows on any other day.

TSCC's first season aired during the writer strike when there were no other new shows. Also, I don't see the problem with putting it against Monday Night Football. There will always be competition. If TSCC had been put against Heroes and still got low ratings, people will just blame Heroes for the low ratings. If TSCC had been put on another night and still got low ratings, people will just blame some other show on at the same time. It's not like Fox can just tell the other networks to stop everything they're doing so they can give new Fox shows a chance.

DVR numbers are available for "Adam Raised a Cain" (ep 21). Also, the original "live" (live +SD) number got a slight bump up. Here's everything: Total Viewers:Live viewers: 2.93 million Live + SD: 3.492 million* Live + 7: 4.399 million Total DVR Viewers: 1.469 million DVR increase: 50%* Total DVR viewership: 33.4% 18-49 Demo:Live viewers: 1.03 million Live + SD: 1.30 million* Live + 7: 1.75 million Total DVR Viewers: .72 million DVR increase: 70%* Total DVR viewership: 41% * These are the numbers to pay most attention to. Live+SD = Live viewers + DVR viewers that watched by 3am Live+7 = Live viewers + DVR viewers that watched within 7 days

Shoot. If 1/3 of our viewers are viewing it through DVR, then that's definitely something Fox should pay attention to. The only reason our ratings took a hit is because no-one wanted to watch on Fridays. If Fox would have kept us on Monday or paired us up with American Idol, I don't think people would be taking the cancellation rumors 1/4 as seriously as they are.
I actually had to correct one of my classmates today who had read that TSCC had been cancelled weeks ago, and that Fox hadn't announced it yet (I also explained the witch hunt we did to Lanie Grace's blog at the Terminator Wetpaint). Even if Fox dumps TSCC though, we've still got a shot at Scifi Channel. 4 million viewers might not sound like a lot to a network, but to a basic cable channel, even half of that would be like a gold mine. I think we've got a decent shot at being renewed on Fox, but if that doesn't work out I'm very confident we'll get picked up by basic cable.

This is certainly encouraging news. Let's hope FOX thinks so too.

Impressive.
I really want FOX to take a flyer on another season for TSCC/DOLLHOUSE. For one thing, TSCC creatively deserves it (DOLLHOUSE I am less sanguine about but - massive BUT - Whedon can bring the goods when he moves himself. A renewal might spur him to work harder to make DOLLHOUSE work for both him and FOX). More importantly, it would buy FOX the goodwill of a vocal audience of fans and critics - bring the shows back on FRIDAY next year as a real alternative programming block rather than pre-ordained failures and then see how they do.

So, are there any numbers out for last night's returning episode of Dollhouse? I want to see if it did better with Prison Break as a lead in, or worse without TSCC as a lead in. If it's the latter, it's good news for us, since that means Fox is less likely going to try to dump TSCC and refill its niche with Dollhouse.

Series lows. TVBNTHRI hope that both shows (Prison Break, Dollhouse) will now stop blaming TSCC for their poor performances because it's beginning to look like the problems lie elsewhere.

Dollhouse and Prison Break apparently did quite poorly. Series lows. Wow. Ouch. TSCC is starting to look like quite the Friday night hit in comparison! Yeah, I think it might be the Friday night timeslot of death. Who knows, maybe the PTB will actually factor that into their decision making processes... Hell, if they really are trying to decide between axing one and saving one out of TSCC/Dollhouse, we might be in with a chance!
